John began training under Pedro and Daniel Vianna of Vianna Brothers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2006. John started running their kids program after he earned his blue belt, and helped grow the young team into the competitive force that it is today. As John advanced through the ranks, he began teaching weekly adult classes and managing the school, all while traveling and competing as frequently as his schedule allowed.

John has had the privilege of competing at the World and Pan American Championships, and has fought countless gi and no-gi submission matches. His competition experience includes:
